What Makes A Good Smile?

WHAT MAKES A GOOD SMILE?

Smiling can have a positive impact on your mood and on the moods of people around you. It can give you an instant boost, even when you’re having a bad day.

However, not everyone is comfortable smiling. There are a number of problems that can turn a great smile bad, but there are solutions that can transform any smile.

STRAIGHT, INTACT TEETH

The positioning of your teeth plays a huge part in a great looking smile. If your teeth are crooked, missing or poorly spaced it can contribute to a poor looking smile and low smile confidence.

An Orthodontist can straighten misaligned teeth. A treatment such as Invisalign can work wonders with your smile, giving you a huge boost in confidence.

HAVING ALL OF YOUR TEETH

A good smile features all of a person’s teeth. Tooth loss can occur for a variety of reasons, from cavities to injury. Poor oral hygiene can also lead to tooth loss.

Periodontists can to help people avoid losing their teeth. There are instances when tooth loss is inevitable but in many cases periodontists can help you keep your own teeth.

Sometimes there is no option but having an implant to replace a missing tooth. Your Smile Specialist can work with an implant specialist to straighten your teeth, correct your bite and prepare the space for the implant to go into.

A full set of teeth, apart from looking better, are also needed for proper chewing, biting and eating!

HEALTHY, PINK GUMS

Healthy gums play a big part in creating a beautiful smile. Healthy gums are light pink in colour and firm to the touch.

A warning sign is if your gums are pulled away from your teeth, or if they are bleeding or puffy. You should see your family dentist right away if you have these symptoms. Your dentist will then refer you to a gum specialist if they see fit.

WHITE TEETH

In the Hollywood age we all want bright white teeth. Sadly many foods and drinks stain your teeth.

There are treatments for yellowing teeth:
• Laser whitening
• Specialist home whitening kits from your dentist
• Regular Hygienist scale and polishes in conjunction with a good whitening tooth paste

Braces Confidence

Braces Confidence

The teenage years can be a traumatic time in the life of your child. Kids can feel pressure to take perfect selfies, have flawless skin, and maintain model-like figures.

Many children who have noticeably crooked or unevenly spaced teeth may suffer from harassment and low self-esteem.

Parents have several options:
Traditional braces
Clear or white braces
Invisalign Teen

How does your smile make you feel?

Many teenagers feel self-conscious about their teeth and can feel stress regarding treatment. Traditional braces can draw attention to that part of the body that teenagers are most stressed about.

On top of that, brackets and wires can irritate mouths, further compounding stress levels.

If you decide traditional braces are the right choice for your child, some changes will need to be made :
• No more sticky or crunchy foods
• Avoid contact sports
• Take a break from playing wind instruments

If you’d rather avoid these kinds of compromises, you do have one option left.

Invisalign Teen

Invisalign Teen’s clear plastic aligners are pretty much invisible and are removable, unlike traditional braces.

This has real benefits for your child:
• Carry on playing contact sports such as rugby or hurling
• No restrictions on diet
• No pictures with a mouth full of metal!
• Clean your teeth and gums as per normal

Still not sure Invisalign Teen is right for your child? See our Invisalign Teen guide to learn more.

Some more benefits

In only 18 months your child can be brimming with confidence with a beautiful new smile. Here are a few more factor to consider:
• Invisalign Teen costs about the same as regular braces
• You need fewer appointments
• The aligners don’t break, so no emergencies
• Easy to clean your teeth

Choosing The Right Braces Provider

By | Blog

Making the decision to undergo orthodontic braces treatment is an important life decision and choosing the right provider is just as important. The perfection of your new smile will rest in the hands of your chosen orthodontist. We understand the difficulty and importance of this process, so we have listed some key points to keep in mind.

Dentist vs. Orthodontist

Both have degrees in dentistry, but Specialist Orthodontists undergo an additional 2-3 years (full-time) in an accredited orthodontic course. This specialty course focuses on the specific treatment of irregularities of the teeth and facial structure.

Word of Mouth

This is a great way to receive information about different practices. Ask a friend or family member which clinic they had orthodontic braces with. Also ask your dentist for their orthodontist of choice. Today, “word of mouth” is the new online review. Make sure to find a practice’s Google (and Google+), Facebook and Yelp reviews to read personal stories and opinions from their patients.

Orthodontic Techniques

Keep in mind if you are visiting many orthodontists, their proposed treatment plans and techniques may differ. There may be different ways to treat the same problem.

Braces Cost

When comparing orthodontic braces’ fees, look carefully at the services included in the price. Some practices charge separately for different parts of treatment while others give one comprehensive fee. Also, enquire about possible hidden fees and their payment plans.

Orthodontist Fit

Lastly, make sure the orthodontist’s and your personalities are compatible. Make sure you feel comfortable in the clinic’s environment and the support  staff. You may be with a clinic for  2-4 years including the braces treatment and the aftercare, so you want to be sure you are happy with a practice.

After taking all these points into consideration, we hope the decision for finding the right brace provider will be easy. Many of these factors can only be determined during the consultation appointment. Here at Newpark Clinic, we offer FREE consultations for braces.
